Gmail indicating Dynamics CRM 2013 (on-prem) is not sufficiently secure

Hello,

We are attempting to set-up Server-Side Sync for gmail and are running into an issue where any user set-up with a gmail email receives the following error when attempting to "Test & Enable Mailbox":

"Can not send the email message" Test Message "because an error occurred while establishing a secure connection to the mail server. The mailbox Beta, User has been disabled for sending e-mail, and the profile of the owner of the mail server Gmail was notified "

Luckily I found someone with the exact same issue. Which led me to this google support page. The key part of that page are the options for enabling the account:

  • Option 1: Upgrade to a more secure app that uses the most up to date security measures. All Google products, like Gmail, use the latest security measures.
  • Option 2: Change your settings to allow less secure apps to access your account. We don't recommend this option because it might make it easier for someone to break into your account. If you want to allow access anyway, follow these steps:

Go to the "Less secure apps" section in My Account.
Next to "Access for less secure apps," select Turn on. (Note to Google Apps users: This setting is hidden if your administrator has locked less secure app account access.)

While enabling less secure apps (Option 2) did indeed fix my issue, I don't see that as a tenable solution for my clients.

So, my question is, how can I upgrade my CRM 2013 on-prem install to meet the minimum google requirements? Is this possible? Is it even something I need to do from within CRM?

Best regards
