Hi CRM community,
I came across an Insights iframe display issue recently in our CRM 2015 Online and wanted to share the solution in case anyone comes across the same problem.
The problem
Using IE 1 (all other browsers were working OK), I noticed the Insights iframe was not loading data but instead asked for access to be granted (something we did when we first set up Inside View over a year ago):
Clicking on Continue as Admin takes you to the authentication page and then you are asked to accept the permissions Insight view needs. You then immediately get the message the page has timed out:
The cause
At first I thought this was a browser-specific problem, but then I realised it was an issue on IE only when I was logged in to a machine as a domain user. If I was logged in as a local user, IE displayed the data without any issues. Queue our Technical Services Manager and Guru, Jonathan Sellers...
The solution
Jonathan first looked at our Group Policy as it is applied to domain users but not local users, so there may have been some IE restrictions that affected the iframes but it turned out there weren't any. Plan B...
We use Site to Zone mapping (via Group Policy) to centralise the administration for IE security zones. To get InsideView working, Jonathan had to add the following 3 sites to the Trusted Sites:
*.insideview.com
*.windows.net
*.microsoftonline.com
He found the answer at the bottom of this support article: https://kb.insideview.com/hc/en-us/articles/205919418-2013-15-Installing-Insights-from-MSD-CRM-Portal
It is still a mystery why InsideView worked before the mapping was applied (e.g. to local users) as Jonathan expected the sites to fall into the Internet Zone by default which has more restrictive security applied. Do let us know if you have the answer!
