*FIX* for "There is a problem communicating with the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server Outlook Client

The above error message (except the *FIX* part ;-), showed up intermittently on computers, along with an intermittent duplicate contacts (1) entry.  The bandaid solution was to uninstall the outlook client, then reinstall the client, hoping it would successfully connect to the on-premise CRM server, the connection of which too would be intermittent. I've been pulling my hair out trying to find a fix for this, including installing the 64bit version of office.   I kept coming back to the sitemap.  Contacted MS support and they looked at the sitemap, and said there were no duplicate "subarea" entries that would indicate that it was trying to connect to the contacts list twice.  In desperation, printed out the sitemap and immediately noticed that there were two versions of sitemap listed... version 6.0.0.0 and version 7.0.0.0.  So while there were no duplicate subarea entries in EACH version 6.0.0.0 and 7.0.0.0, there was duplication of the entire sitemap, version 6 AND version 7. So I surmise that every time the outlook client was trying to connect, it was reading the sitemap twice... version 6 and version 7, thereby causing slowness and connectivity issues.  So I decided to load a default sitemap for crm 2015 using the CRMtoolbox utility by Tanguay.  It did change the look of the outlook client folder list of CRM, but it's been several days now, and we've not had any connectivity issues.  So how did this sitemap duplication happen?  We upgraded from 4.0 to 2011, 2013, 2015 all at one time, and I suspect that the sitemap duplicated somewhere. I am cautiously optimistic that this was the root of the problems.  I hope this helps others, as this has been a major pain in the neck for us!!!!
