Potential Customer field in Opportunity

As I am sure you are all familiar, if you add the Potential Customer field to a form there is not a way to remove it. To get around having it stuck on your form along with Account, and Contact, previously in CRM2015 you could hide the field, and create a business rule to auto complete the value based on the selection made for Account. In CRM2016, this business rule is now broken, because the Potential Customer field is not recognized. Being the rule was already built there is a message along the top that states that the "formula references a field that does not exist: customerid." If you go the fields in business rules, Potential Customer is not there, but it is most certainly is a field of the Opp record. Anyone else running into this?
