Data Export/Re-Import Fail in CRM 2015 on premise

Non-technical admin here (I only work in the UI, no SQL for me).  We are CRM 2015 On Premise 7.0.2.53, and I'm seeing the behavior described below in both Test and Production environments.  I am no longer able to export data to excel and make edits for re-import.  This is seriously hindering my ability to make speedy updates to large groups of records.

Until last week, I was able to export an xml file by checking the "make available for re-import" option.  I could edit, save, and re-import the xml file, and it would apply edits to the records.  Then the options changed with the .2 update.

I now have a new export option that exports as an xlsx only, with no re-import option to check.  The exported xlsx appears to have GUID info in the first three columns, but I can’t make an edit and re-import an xlsx into CRM without generating errors (similar to what is described in this post).  If I make changes to the spreadsheet and save as an XML, it will allow me to import, but requires that I create a new data map.  It then imports duplicate new records instead of applying changes to the original ones, despite the GUID columns.

I've had no changes to picklists during this update process (the error is "one or more of the option values for this picklist are not in the range of allowed values").  There's no indication of a specific picklist or entity to even look at, and the same error is generated regardless of the exported view content (no picklists) or entity.  There's no option to download an error log.  Not sure where to go from here, or if someone has noted a bug with the export import capability on this release in regard to on premise.

Thanks! Any advice appreciated.
