Just doing some research for a 2013 SP1 upgrade to 2016. I read the below statement from MS, which says that you can in-place upgrade using the trial key, but everywhere else I have read you need a separate environment setting up using the 2015 trial key. Has anyone gone through the process to do in-place on existing servers as this is the preferred method for us.
Upgrading from previous versions of Microsoft Dynamics CRM
Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 and Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 are not supported for upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016. However, you can migrate or in-place upgrade Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server 2013 SP1 to Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server 2015 by using a trial product key, and then either migrate or in-place upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016.
