Hey everyone sorry if this is a dumb question but here's my situation. I have Dynamics 2015 on prem right now that we use for our CRM. In our office we have laptops and use Office 365 for email. I do not have Office 365 and Dynamics integrated at all nor is active directory as I haven't had any need and I'm not really sure how I do that. So we just access Dynamics basically over the internet (not IFD though as I couldn't get it to work) and log in with the active directory user name and password I have set (it is different from the PC log in since most of my users own their own machines).
I have Dynamics on a dedicated server in the cloud, but I'm lost in trying to get the Outlook plugin to work. Since we access Dynamics over the Internet I know it needs IFD but I'd rather use a VPN. What I'm not clear on though is even if I VPN in it still doesn't work, but is that because my users PC's should be on the domain or? I'm not clear because the IP for the server (made up) is 158.58.2.9 with dynamics on port 444, so we access it at 158.59.2.9:444. If we VPN in though, we still access it the same way, so the Outlook plugin still complains about security.
Long story short what I'm trying to do is:
- Dynamics on a dedicated server in the cloud, same machine runs Active Directory as there's just 5 users.
- Remote users in various locations, many on their own laptops, most using their own outlook.com email addresses, a couple using their Office 365 log in (not all users have Windows 10 Pro most are Home hence they log in with their own accounts).
- Avoid IFD and just have users use VPN in with their Active Directory logins (from Dynamics server) and be able to use the Outlook plugin.
- Putting users on the domain is not an option as I don't own most of their machines.
