Cannot add column to system views

I cannot add columns to any system view. Every time I go in to the view and click on add columns a window pops up but there is nothing to click to add a column. A record type drop down appears but no matter the record type I select nothing shows up to select a filed i.e. Address, email etc… What am I doing wrong?
